An even split table answers a narrow arithmetic question: what cumulative clock would correspond to one constant average pace? It is a reference, not a recommendation that ignores hills, crowds, aid stations, weather, or how a runner feels.
Calculate cumulative checkpoints
For a checkpoint distance d within total distance D and total time T, cumulative time is T × d ÷ D. Calculate each checkpoint independently from T and D. Do not repeatedly add a displayed one-unit split, because its rounded seconds can accumulate into a wrong finish.
Keep the partial finish row
A half marathon ends at 21.0975 km, not 21 km, and a marathon ends at 42.195 km, not 42 km. The table therefore includes every whole selected unit and one final row for the remaining fraction. That last row must equal the entered or calculated total time after display rounding.
Know what even arithmetic omits
Even arithmetic does not model elevation, turns, surface, congestion, stops, wind, heat, hydration, fatigue, or individual capacity. PaceCalc intentionally omits positive and negative strategies and race prediction. Use official course information and personal judgement for real pacing decisions.
