This example checks a simple target: cover exactly 5,000 metres in 25 minutes at one mathematical average pace. It does not claim that a particular runner can or should hold that pace.
State the exact inputs
Distance is 5 km = 5,000 m = 5,000,000,000 µm. Time is 25 minutes = 1,500 seconds. Select Calculate pace and kilometre split rows. No date, location, current time, or course profile enters the calculation.
Calculate pace and speed
1,500 seconds ÷ 5 kilometres = exactly 300 seconds per kilometre, displayed as 5:00/km. Multiplying by 1.609344 gives 482.8032 seconds per mile, displayed as 8:03/mi. Speed is exactly 12 km/h, about 7.46 mph.
Check all five splits
At the same arithmetic pace, cumulative kilometre clocks are 5:00, 10:00, 15:00, 20:00, and 25:00. The finish equals the entered total exactly. Real kilometre splits may vary while still producing the same overall average.
